Flip books final

Flip books turned out to be a lot more difficult than i had anticipated with the overall design, cutting and binding of all the pieces that were needed to create each one.  I like the way each one turned out I feel like this will be a great addition to my portfolio overall.  I create an overall container for the project. And than three individual containers for the heart, sushi, and the cloud.  Each one is unique to its character and have short animations nothing too long or too complex.  Overall I am very happy with the end result of the project and it was well worth the time it took to make them.

A1 and A2

A1. / B1
My project is a flip book. It will actually be a set of five flip books, each one with their own animation sequence. The books will each be an example of a type of business card or self promotion. The booklets will each be a four second animation that will each be about 50 pages long. The last four pages will be my contact information because the last pages are usually lost when the viewer starts to run out of pages while flipping. I want to create an interesting way to make my own way of self promotion.

three ideas for final projects...

1. I had the idea of a flip book that uses the frame by frame animation made in flash as its basic makeup.  I would use screen shots from the animation as it moves to create my prints and design my book in that way. The project would not be done in a hand drawn aesthetic it would be very computerized and look very computerized.  Vector art mostly would be used. I want it very color full and very vibrant.  There is a video that i can't seem to find about walking up the stairs and its very simple and is using vector animation to create the look and feel.  I would like to do something of that sort like making toast or some other thing that we do and don't really think about.

2. A similar project to the poster i printed off for project 15, but three large posters at 24 x 30. These posters will have an incredible high evolution and each one will show the objects and design pieces that I chose turned and fighting for position in the space. I want two print in blank and one printed in white, these would be the background colors of the three. With the hanging I want the White in the middle to show high contrast.  I am thinking that chess pieces are going to be my objects of choice.  The pieces would start off in line as they appear on the game board as the animation starts they will move forward slightly and than begin moving  around the space intended.  Like in a real chess games each piece will fight for space and I will try to show the interaction of pushing against each other to gain the advantage in the area presented.  Almost like a war between the piece the white background piece will be the end of the war while the black background pieces will show the pushing and "war" as it is happening.

3. A fully realized portfolio sight that contains links, a resume, and all projects done the field of design. I want  the sight to be very sleek and simple. I would like to be able to create a sight that i would be able to show to clients and employers.

project 15

The idea behind this piece was to create a poster that showed the movement in space along with some idea of the lapse of time.  I chose to put it in a large three panel format to help create the sensations of both movement and time.  I did take the screen shots into photoshop to create a stronger contrast between the colors, white, and black.  The overall result is a 28x10 poster and i feel that the result is quite captivating.

Examples of Prints

Project 13

I was extremely interested in the ideas of making prints from the movement of the tweens and i decided to try it.  I kept my amount of shapes to a minimum so i could see how each one was effected by the tween that was placed on it.  Over all i want to try my hand at it at least one more time and put more substance to each piece but for that experiment that is being presented i think they turned out well.  The only thing i would have to change is the shapes i was using because flash doesn't handle the splatter shapes that i transferred from illustrator.

FINAL project 12

I am having some major problems with a corrupted file that seems to not allow certain aspects to work in the animations.  But i did change the background and the run speeds of the movie clips so they can be read easier. I like the new background better.  One problem i was having was the movie clip connected to the fish movie clip. Flash can't seem to recognize it.

My overall project is in reference to the conservation of animals and the enviroment they live in. The idea was to show younger viewers the effects on an ecosystem when one of the animals is removed. I believe the overall look and feel was exactly what i wanted, the background and animals are simple and easy to recognize making it easy for the viewer to jump in and glance at the animals. Automatically they know what they are. The text is minimal and that helps with smaller viewers who get distracted easily. I like the way it turned out but its still not perfect.

screen shots

This is the look and feel that I wanted for my project. I kept the background and images simple and I wanted everything to be straight forward. I kept the colors down to the blue so that it would better reflect the environment chosen.

concept 2

NEW CONCEPT

A marine ecosystem is set up in front of the player. The system includes an octopus, a shark, 3 lobsters, 2 crabs, a school of fish, a group of small dots that are to be plankton, and algae on the ocean floor. The user is than introduced to the scene with a small text box that is on the left side of the ocean scene.  This box will explain briefly what the ecosystem is and gives them the idea to move the different creatures out of the box and onto the black hit areas outside the ocean scene. When a creature is removed the text box to the right will change to explain what is happening in the scene as it happens.

When the shark is removed, 1 new octopus will appear and 2 new seal to show the population skyrocketing to the lack of predators. The octopus does not raise quite as much because the seal is still one of its predators. With the increase of these extra predator, their prey the crab and the lobster population will decrease causing the increase in small fishes. The increase in small fish cause the algae to decrease and the plankton as well.

Once the movie clip is done playing the shark will jump back to the ocean scene will move back to the original scene.

The process also works backwards if the small fish are removed than the lobster and crab populations plummet. This causes the octopus and seal ration to decrease and ultimate the sharks will leave to find better food sources. Eventually the ocean scene will only contain an overpopulation in algae and plankton.

The overall concept would be to communicate damages to an ecosystem when one piece is removed and the rest of the environment turns to chaos and slowly fails.  It shows that a series of checks and balances must be made by the predators, consumers, omnivores and herbivores.

just some fun examples

Some pretty nice educational flash animation I found while doing research.

complete 360

alright, I am starting from scratch.

First, I need to plan out the flow chart and establish the concept for this piece. I need to outline my movie-clips and decide what plays when things are moved and interact. Than i need to create a mock-up of the actual scene and the way the user will navigate from place to place. I need to decide on what gets moved and how it is effected by its removal or its relocation. Once the code is set into place and is working i need to begin creating my full graphics starting with the back ground and than the animals in the ecosystem. After the graphics are made i need to place them and convert them to movie-clips and buttons. After all of this i need to test and fix anything that doesn't work or needs to be altered.

concept

The idea of teaching through a video game is widely used, i would like to create a pet type of flash game that allows the player to interact with the pet. I would like to use endangered species. The idea would to feed the animal by dragging the object from the lower menu.  The dynamic text box would than change with fun facts about the animal and with each object dragged to it a new movie clip will play.

write-up project 7

Upon building my animation, I began to think about the idea of the quiz and deciding what type of cake you are. I began the quiz and found out really quick how hard it was to code that many buttons into the animation itself and still keeping them in order and linking to the right frames. The idea was a very simple and smooth designer feeling behind what is a simple quiz that people take on the internet.  I would have loved to make a bigger quiz but time restraints with work and other projects made it very difficult. But over-all I am happy with the work that i came out with, the only thing I would like to work on a little more is the idea of the quiz being larger.

technical outline

I need to decide on textures and the overall cut paper look for this piece.

Research the descriptions of cake and how people view them.

Keep the beginning animation short and to the point. No fluff.

Maybe look at some music to include with the piece.

Decide on if there is a survey or not.  Decide on if there is an animation after each cake selection.

Work on characters. Should the baker be present?

Should the metaphor be explained or should it be left up to interpretation?

getting things finished throughout the week:

Friday: Research different types of cakes and survey a few people on how they see each cake.
Pick out the paper colors and textures to be used for the animation.

Saturday: Start out by creating the backgrounds and main stages of the animations.
If time allows begin cutting out and piecing together the cakes.

Sunday: Finish the cakes and begin on the character.
Scan everything into the computer and work on cleaning it up for the animation.

Monday: Create the scenes using illustrator and flash.
Get everything placed into Flash.

Tuesday: Work on the movements more in flash make them smooth.

Wednesday: Spend the day coding.

Thursday:  Test on roommates and make remaining changes.

script and set up

My Flash will touch bases with the fact that a woman choses her men like cake and how in reality men can really be represented by cakes. The flash will start out with an introduction of a woman eating cake the camera will never actually show her whole face just the lower half. She will take a bite but than make a face because she doesn't quite like it. She than gets up from the table, throws the cake away, and leaves. The next scene fades into the facade of a bakery and the viewer enters it. The viewer is than given control to click around the bakery making selections and reading the description with each instance. The interior of her house will show only her lower face and her table.

Each scene will have a description above or below it.

Scene 1:(the woman sits down with the cake in front of her) Every woman picks a cake by the way it looks , this selection is strictly on a basic attraction to the cake.

Scene 2: (the woman takes a bite of the cake) As the woman gets closer to the cake she decides to taste it.

Scene 3: ( the woman made a face after tasting the cake) Sometimes the cake is not exactly what she bargained for and she decides she doesn't like the taste.

Scene 4: ( the woman throws away the old cake and heads out)When the woman gets sick of her cake she throws it out and gets another one.

Scene 5: (the facade of the bakery shows up) So the woman goes to the bakery to get a new cake.

Scene 6: ( the user takes over here as we come to the interior of the bakery and each cake has a different saying when clicked)

flash idea number 2

I was thinking about a new flash animation and actually my first idea came with maybe making something for the zoo to introduce their Pandas.  It might be something they could post on their website.  The animation would start with a small forest of bamboo that sways in the wind.  The two pandas would be introduced within the next two to five frames.  from than on out the animation would move on and small facts would pop up about the panda and how they live, what they eat and how much they eat, and what they do while playing.

Like the first idea, the user would than come to the end and they could interact with the flash panda and the environment.  They could feed him, pet him, just a few things that would be kind of fun.

idea for flash animation

Early last semester my friends and I were talking in Applebee's about how boys represented cakes.  For my animation i want to create a short animation at the beginning that introduces the cake theory without actually saying it straight out.  It will start out with a girl eating cake and than deciding that it is not exactly the type of cake that she had bargained for, so she decides to look for a new cake.

She goes to the bakery and she is confronted with many different styles of cake and cupcakes, this is where the interactivity comes in, the movie will stop play and the user can now go around the bakery and click on different cakes and other objects around the room.  Say if the user clicks on the carrot cake the description would pop up " this cake is a little nerdy but sweet with a little bit of spice". Or if the user clicks on the cupcakes " a great snack but not very useful for a long term dessert."

final And twhat was done.

the two that follow were beginning attempts at the project:

For the weekend the following will have to be done:

1. Think of new designs for the main button on the start page.

2. The swirls need to change
What might be a better choice?
What relates better to the designs that I have created?

3. If the swirls change so do the buttons, get a new design for the three sub-buttons.

4. Stick with CMYK or change the color scheme up

5.  Fix the video its a little awkward

6. Fix the alignment on the logo

7. Maybe keeping it simple would work better

8. Choose a background

9. Finish coding

the comic not the review and my comic flash

Watch REPO! REVIEW: Testify! At the Genetic Opera, Tonight! | View More Free Videos Online at Veoh.com

The comic in the beginning shows something similar to the idea i had for my commercial. The idea of moving frames and the pooping up of the words is the basic idea behind what i would like to accomplish.

This is my comic nowhere near the quality of that one but i still like it.

revised logo 3

I fixed the problem with the a and the i not lining up correctly. After researching the placement of the logo on the t-shirt the placement is correct and if it gets moved over anymore it causes the logo to line up weirdly.

T-shirt logo and placement idea

Expanding the text was important and the shrinking of the thought bubble helped to show the slogan better.

logo part 3

This logo I was mimicking the idea behind the other logo that was used earlier by the company. I wanted something fresh and bright. The blue was used because it pops and it also is a calming color which makes the message have a happier feel to it. The thought bubble shows the ability to keep the short saying on your mind even when things get heated.

logo 2 redo

This one is smoother and less grungy than the last logo.

Logo part 2

This log is similar to the first one with the more sophisticated type and the curvy lines. Both seem to work well with the way that planned parenthood keeps designs and logos fresh but simple. I used the female body in this one to show the literal sexual presence. I added the condom in her hand to show the safer aspect of things. The simplicity again has to do with the ability to change it for multiple surfaces and other aspects.

logo part 1

This logo was created to be geared toward a more sophisticated style. The color can be easily changed and the size can be manipulated freely. The look i am trying to translate is that sex is beautiful and staying safe is just as beautiful. The "s" heart is what i chose to translate the idea of beauty, with the hearts graceful curves and slender motion it allows the idea of that similar to the graceful curves of the human body.

homework 1/27

Planned parenthood is an organization that helps to spread the idea of using birth control during all sexual activity. They also provide more affordable health care for women that are already pregnant or suspect that they are pregnant. They also provide first and second trimester abortions, the plan b pill, and early detection pregnancy tests. They have worked hard to bring the idea of safe sex to everyone and not just relying the message of abstinence. After seeing some of the past design and even going through the layout of their website the company tends to lean towards designs that are more sophisticated and simple. But with the last logo for this campaign it does seem to be geared toward the younger audience and has a more youthful flare to it.

Safe is sexy

Safe is sexy is a way to show the public that safe sex is better than unprotected sex. The idea for my design for pp is to have something simple but still youthful kinda like the skate logo. The message needs to be relaying the message that this is not something that needs to be taken lightly. The logo needs to be easily recognized and needs to be able to be place in multiple places with the ability to vary in size greatly.

Skate

So yea logos are a fun experiment. I was trying to find a good style to go with and I think using a similar style to the skate logos would be a nice change. These logos are more stylistic and allow for a younger audience to find them appealing usually the age ranges of 13 to 25. This allows for an easy way to cover a wide range of ages through a simple but elegant logo. Also this allows for the ability to create a logo that can be compressed and expanded easily. Simplicity will be a large factor in my designs. =)

And so it begins......

Today marked a day in history but i did not watch it. I was more concerned about school starting and work than to worry about watching a speech. I do hope that the change we were promised comes swiftly but with a lot of thought put behind it. This country needs help in many things like its economy, morals, school systems, and many other things that have been neglected. As Americans we need to work towards making our communities better and by doing such we will make our nation better. We can not leave everything up to one man, it will take us all to change things for the good.
