My overall project is in reference to the conservation of animals and the enviroment they live in. The idea was to show younger viewers the effects on an ecosystem when one of the animals is removed. I believe the overall look and feel was exactly what i wanted, the background and animals are simple and easy to recognize making it easy for the viewer to jump in and glance at the animals. Automatically they know what they are. The text is minimal and that helps with smaller viewers who get distracted easily. I like the way it turned out but its still not perfect.

screen shots

This is the look and feel that I wanted for my project. I kept the background and images simple and I wanted everything to be straight forward. I kept the colors down to the blue so that it would better reflect the environment chosen.

concept 2

NEW CONCEPT

A marine ecosystem is set up in front of the player. The system includes an octopus, a shark, 3 lobsters, 2 crabs, a school of fish, a group of small dots that are to be plankton, and algae on the ocean floor. The user is than introduced to the scene with a small text box that is on the left side of the ocean scene.  This box will explain briefly what the ecosystem is and gives them the idea to move the different creatures out of the box and onto the black hit areas outside the ocean scene. When a creature is removed the text box to the right will change to explain what is happening in the scene as it happens.

When the shark is removed, 1 new octopus will appear and 2 new seal to show the population skyrocketing to the lack of predators. The octopus does not raise quite as much because the seal is still one of its predators. With the increase of these extra predator, their prey the crab and the lobster population will decrease causing the increase in small fishes. The increase in small fish cause the algae to decrease and the plankton as well.

Once the movie clip is done playing the shark will jump back to the ocean scene will move back to the original scene.

The process also works backwards if the small fish are removed than the lobster and crab populations plummet. This causes the octopus and seal ration to decrease and ultimate the sharks will leave to find better food sources. Eventually the ocean scene will only contain an overpopulation in algae and plankton.

The overall concept would be to communicate damages to an ecosystem when one piece is removed and the rest of the environment turns to chaos and slowly fails.  It shows that a series of checks and balances must be made by the predators, consumers, omnivores and herbivores.

just some fun examples

Some pretty nice educational flash animation I found while doing research.

complete 360

alright, I am starting from scratch.

First, I need to plan out the flow chart and establish the concept for this piece. I need to outline my movie-clips and decide what plays when things are moved and interact. Than i need to create a mock-up of the actual scene and the way the user will navigate from place to place. I need to decide on what gets moved and how it is effected by its removal or its relocation. Once the code is set into place and is working i need to begin creating my full graphics starting with the back ground and than the animals in the ecosystem. After the graphics are made i need to place them and convert them to movie-clips and buttons. After all of this i need to test and fix anything that doesn't work or needs to be altered.

concept

The idea of teaching through a video game is widely used, i would like to create a pet type of flash game that allows the player to interact with the pet. I would like to use endangered species. The idea would to feed the animal by dragging the object from the lower menu.  The dynamic text box would than change with fun facts about the animal and with each object dragged to it a new movie clip will play.

write-up project 7

Upon building my animation, I began to think about the idea of the quiz and deciding what type of cake you are. I began the quiz and found out really quick how hard it was to code that many buttons into the animation itself and still keeping them in order and linking to the right frames. The idea was a very simple and smooth designer feeling behind what is a simple quiz that people take on the internet.  I would have loved to make a bigger quiz but time restraints with work and other projects made it very difficult. But over-all I am happy with the work that i came out with, the only thing I would like to work on a little more is the idea of the quiz being larger.

technical outline

I need to decide on textures and the overall cut paper look for this piece.

Research the descriptions of cake and how people view them.

Keep the beginning animation short and to the point. No fluff.

Maybe look at some music to include with the piece.

Decide on if there is a survey or not.  Decide on if there is an animation after each cake selection.

Work on characters. Should the baker be present?

Should the metaphor be explained or should it be left up to interpretation?

getting things finished throughout the week:

Friday: Research different types of cakes and survey a few people on how they see each cake.
Pick out the paper colors and textures to be used for the animation.

Saturday: Start out by creating the backgrounds and main stages of the animations.
If time allows begin cutting out and piecing together the cakes.

Sunday: Finish the cakes and begin on the character.
Scan everything into the computer and work on cleaning it up for the animation.

Monday: Create the scenes using illustrator and flash.
Get everything placed into Flash.

Tuesday: Work on the movements more in flash make them smooth.

Wednesday: Spend the day coding.

Thursday:  Test on roommates and make remaining changes.

script and set up

My Flash will touch bases with the fact that a woman choses her men like cake and how in reality men can really be represented by cakes. The flash will start out with an introduction of a woman eating cake the camera will never actually show her whole face just the lower half. She will take a bite but than make a face because she doesn't quite like it. She than gets up from the table, throws the cake away, and leaves. The next scene fades into the facade of a bakery and the viewer enters it. The viewer is than given control to click around the bakery making selections and reading the description with each instance. The interior of her house will show only her lower face and her table.

Each scene will have a description above or below it.

Scene 1:(the woman sits down with the cake in front of her) Every woman picks a cake by the way it looks , this selection is strictly on a basic attraction to the cake.

Scene 2: (the woman takes a bite of the cake) As the woman gets closer to the cake she decides to taste it.

Scene 3: ( the woman made a face after tasting the cake) Sometimes the cake is not exactly what she bargained for and she decides she doesn't like the taste.

Scene 4: ( the woman throws away the old cake and heads out)When the woman gets sick of her cake she throws it out and gets another one.

Scene 5: (the facade of the bakery shows up) So the woman goes to the bakery to get a new cake.

Scene 6: ( the user takes over here as we come to the interior of the bakery and each cake has a different saying when clicked)

flash idea number 2

I was thinking about a new flash animation and actually my first idea came with maybe making something for the zoo to introduce their Pandas.  It might be something they could post on their website.  The animation would start with a small forest of bamboo that sways in the wind.  The two pandas would be introduced within the next two to five frames.  from than on out the animation would move on and small facts would pop up about the panda and how they live, what they eat and how much they eat, and what they do while playing.

Like the first idea, the user would than come to the end and they could interact with the flash panda and the environment.  They could feed him, pet him, just a few things that would be kind of fun.

idea for flash animation

Early last semester my friends and I were talking in Applebee's about how boys represented cakes.  For my animation i want to create a short animation at the beginning that introduces the cake theory without actually saying it straight out.  It will start out with a girl eating cake and than deciding that it is not exactly the type of cake that she had bargained for, so she decides to look for a new cake.

She goes to the bakery and she is confronted with many different styles of cake and cupcakes, this is where the interactivity comes in, the movie will stop play and the user can now go around the bakery and click on different cakes and other objects around the room.  Say if the user clicks on the carrot cake the description would pop up " this cake is a little nerdy but sweet with a little bit of spice". Or if the user clicks on the cupcakes " a great snack but not very useful for a long term dessert."
